Seasonal Progression

If your property is eroding away, stop its progress with this EZ Scape™. This combination of plants is perfect for securing soil in place, as it’s comprised of species native to North America that are known to slowly get wider over time. This gorgeous array of plants also complements each other perfectly. The color story emphasizes the warmth of reds and pinks and the simplicity of white. The show begins with the frothy spring flowers on the red-twig dogwoods and is carried on with the equally fluffy late summer flowers on the ninebark. Summer is filled with an abundance of domed flowers from the smooth hydrangea. By the time fall rolls around, you might get to see red-twig dogwood berries before the birds devour them. Fear not, the winter display is a surefire thing. Red-twig dogwoods shine when all the foliage drops around them and the stems are on full display. Imagine enjoying all of this beauty AND getting to rest easy knowing your soil is stabilizing.

Shrubs in this EZ Scape™

Tiny Wine burgundy bushes

TINY WINE® Ninebark (Physocarpus)

Long-lasting color • Interesting upright habit • Native to North America

Height: 3-5′
Spread: 3-5′
Zones: 3-7
Primary Season of Interest: Summer (foliage color)
Secondary Season of Interest: Spring (flowers)
Care Tips: Will perform best in full sun – a minimum of six hours of direct light and up to all day sun. Adapts to most soils. Regular pruning is not recommended, as it retains the most graceful habit when untouched. Can benefit from periodic rejuvenation pruning.

Hedge of Incrediball white hydrangeas
INCREDIBALL® Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens)

INCREDIBALL® Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens)

Tons of extra-large flowers • Easy care regimen • Very cold hardy

Height: 3-5′
Spread: 3-5′
Zones: 3-8
Primary Season of Interest: Summer
Care Tips: Will perform well in a range of sun exposures – a minimum of four hours of direct light and up to all day sun. Benefits from afternoon shade in warm climates. Will grow in most soils except those that remain wet. Yearly spring pruning is recommended. Cut back only by 1/3.

Arctic Fire Red twig bush
ARCTIC FIRE® Red Red-Twig Dogwood (Cornus sericea 'Farrow')

ARCTIC FIRE® Red Red-Twig Dogwood (Cornus sericea 'Farrow')

Native to North America • Compact habit • Deer resistant

Height: 3-5′
Spread: 3-5′
Zones: 2-7
Primary Season of Interest: Winter (stems)
Secondary Season of Interest: Spring (flowers)
Care Tips: Will perform well in a range of sun exposures – a minimum of four hours of direct light and up to all day sun. However, it’s one of the most shade tolerant shrubs. So it can be positioned in less sun and will still grow well, just not quite as robustly as it would with more exposure. Adapts to most soils, but will grow best in moist soils. Pruning is recommended. Stem color is brightest on one and two year old stems, so plan to perform regular rejuvenation prunes.
