Seasonal Progression

Bring bold texture and flowers to the shade with this super reliable EZ Scape™! It’s built with shrubs that vary in leaf size, providing incredible visual texture. Each flowering shrub produces super upright flowers in abundance. If grown in deep shade, both flowers will remain bright white. Gardens with a little direct sun will cause the Gatsby Pink oakleaf hydrangea to blush pink with fall color. This combination looks cohesive on its own, but also creates a great base for shorter shrubs and perennials.

Blight Resistant • Deer Resistant • Evergreen

Height: 3′
Spread: 3′
Zones: 5b-8
Primary Season of Interest: Evergreen
Care Tips: Will perform well in all sun exposures, as it is extremely shade tolerant. Needs moist, well-draining soil with neutral or alkaline pH. Pruning isn’t required, but it will respond well to a trim in late spring after new growth emerges.

Gatsby Pink Oakleaf Hydrangea with large pink panicle blooms
GATSBY PINK® Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia)

GATSBY PINK® Oakleaf Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia)

Native • Very colorful • Shade tolerant

Height: 6 – 8′
Spread: 6 – 8′
Zones: 5-9
Primary Season of Interest: Summer (flowers)
Secondary Season of Interest: Fall (color change)
Care Tips: Will perform well in a range of sun exposures – a minimum of four hours of direct light and up to all day sun. However, it’s the most shade tolerant hydrangea type, so it can be positioned in less sun and will typically still produce a few blooms. Will grow best in moist soils, but not those that remain wet. Pruning is not recommended, as they flower on old wood.

Fragrant • Tidy Habit • Pollinator Friendly

Height: 2-3′

Primary Season of Interest: Summer
Care Tips: Will perform well in a range of sun exposures – a minimum of four hours of direct light and up to all day sun. Will grow in more shade, but flower count will be lower. Adapts to most soils, but prefers those that are moist or remain wet. Pruning isn’t necessary, but can be performed after flowering if desired.
